Love them or loathe them, this piece of headwear always seems to make a comeback every year. A staple from the 80s and 90s, Kangol was one of the most popular brands to keep people staying on trend. Seeing famous hip hop artists like LL Cool J and Run DMC rocking them with sportswear and huge gold chains. It was an item for the people of streets, a young and cool accessory that stemmed from “the hood”.
Now it has been seen on the catwalk shows from the likes of Chanel, Prada, A-Cold Wall, Dior, LV plus many more. Every spring/summer and even in the autumn there seems to be a new reinvention of the classic hat, catching the eye of the new generation.
Luxury brands (in recent times now more than ever) have taken inspiration from streetwear, changing with the new way of how people dress and what the customer wants now. Made from different textile materials such as vinyl, faux fur to denim, leather and corduroy. New and updated styles have been invented by designers such as Maison Margiela, a 2 in 1 style (backwards cap and bucket combination), Opening Ceremony – hat covers entire head with a slit for the eyes to Valentino’s oversized hat with enormous V logo.
Bucket hats are normally worn with street/sportswear, yet today they are worn with tailoring, dresses, blazers, literally anything that is not predictable for an up to date look. They can be worn to be either dressed up or dressed down, depending on where you’re going or the vibe you want to portray.
For guys, a formal yet chilled look, the co-ord laid-back suit with trainers is quite a vibe! This look may not be for every guy but it seems to be the most trendiest way to style your outfit when wearing it. If it’s defiantly not for you, then there are many other ways to style and wear it. The chilled everyday vibe of styling it is with a t-shirt, windbreaker, jeans and a bumbag/over shoulder bag. Accessorise with jewellery! For those autumn months, wear a puffer jacket with a sweatshirt or hoodie, joggers or trousers. Add layers for different textures and obviously warmth.
Now for the girls, the vibe is quite similar. This accessory can be worn with a blazer and shorts (tailored or jersey) of the same or contrasting colour, trainers, ankle socks, a cute bag and statement sunglasses (preferably narrow or cat eye style glasses in a primary colour or classic black). For dressed down, crop bra top or t-shirt with joggers and trainers or even a dress (preferably a body-con or shift/cami dress). For the colder months its the same for the guys, again a puffer jacket or copped faux fur jacket.
