Sky God is a multidisciplinary artist from West London who combines Hip-Hop and Drill with conscious lyricism and political commentary. His passion for music came from a catalogue of his mother’s old CDs: Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu to Wu-Tang Clan and the RHCP. Sky’s work aims to uplift and celebrate blackness and diversity in all of its incarnations and draws influence and inspiration from black history, Afrofuturism, spirituality, science-fiction and anime.
Sky God has at long last stepped out from behind the clouds with his recent release of DAWN, a double-sided single that gives us a taste of what to expect from him over the coming months.
The 2 track LP teases an introduction to Sky’s new sound and style. The project features the experimentally melodic and minimalist track LTD Talk, which represents a new sonic direction and style for the artist, showing his range and the breath of his inspiration. While its ‘twin’ Mirror Force brings an opposing energy in terms of tonality and content.
The LP highlights a conversation, a duality within both the artist and the world as he understands it to be. It deals with themes personal to Sky but also representative of the modern era and the juxtapositions inherent in our contemporary culture. The project is about fortitude, growth, conflict, rebirth and loss. All themes will be explored further in the forthcoming ‘Sun Eater‘ EP.
Sky founded Pen-Ting Poetry in 2017 in an effort to promote community cohesion and the decolonising of art spaces, with the goal of platforming the voices of minority artists. Sky has spent the last two years refining his art and perfecting his craft with the label Equilibrium Records before making his way back to the stage with his new sound.
