YOUNG KING OF GRIME AWAITING FOR HIS THRONE – ARMZOUT

28 septiembre, 2020 //  by Giselle Palou

Klueless Magazine had the pleasure to interview one of the best MC’s not only from East London Hackney, but from the entire cosmopolitan city of London. It is only a matter of time for ARMZOUT to elevate grime from the states of Hackney to studios and sound systems around the world.

Following his previous releases as the mixtape #52ARMZ in 2017, when the genius artist published 1 track every week of the year, with intensively hard-hitting lyrics; his appearance in #LOTM8 in summer 2019 with his direct-confident unique grime flow, surely he blow-minds anyone with his own exclusive sound. Also tracks such #1000Flips produced by MMO later in 2019 and #UnderObbo produced by Jammz & Dj Jackdat in February earlier this year, are truly bangers to get our ears deeply into. The young artist has been working and has unreleased music with big UK artists such as Wiley, Durrty Goodz and Jammer.

We know we can expect fresh and new smooth bars any time soon being spit by the special musician, as he is original in his own way. In a city full of variety in the Grime music industry, being organised and uncommon in his sound and music creation is truly one of the keys of the Grime success path. ARMZ owns that one and only unrepeatable voice which is going to blow your mind.

K – How did the journey with music start?

Well, the journey of music started kind of unpredictable, I didn’t think when I was younger that I would be a musician. Non of my parents are musicians but music was just something that was always around and prominent in my environment. Dating back as young as I can remember, maybe 7 or 8 years old and I loved it ever since.

K – What was the trigger point that made you decide to get into the music world?

I can’t temember of a specific time when I though music was for me, but my older brother had a big influence on my music taste. When I got to secondary school I think that was then I made the decision to explore it for myself.

K – What would be your dream collaboration (if any)? Why?

To be honest I don’t have a dream collaboration because I see music as a journey and I believe on a journey you have a lot of experiences and meet a lot of different people so I wouldn’t say I have a specific dream collaboration. But anyone that takes music as seriously and love it as much as me would be a dream collaboration.

K – Who’s your favourite artist of all times?

My favourite artist of all times is Styles P, and the reason why he is my favourite is because his music just spoke to me growing up in the environment that I grew up in. I just feel like when we talk about favourites there is not one absolute favourite because who is my favourite won’t be the next persons favourite and even if my favourite is another’s person favourite it could be because of two completely different reasons. Basically Styles P makes that hard street music that is just raw and polished and also his lyrics are real and I feel like when it comes to lyrics, being a lyricist myself, when listeners listen to music you either can hear them or you can’t hear them. I hear his lyrics!

K – What rap/grime albums did you grow up listening to?

There is a few, there is a few! But some that stand out to me: Dizzy Raskcal “Boy In The Corner”, Eminem “Encore”, Nas “I Am” and 50 Cent “Get Rich Or Die Trying”.

K – Who is the favourite producer that you worked with?

Earlier in my career, or when I just started out, there is this producer called AT (Abstract Talent) he is one of my favourites, he is so abstract (the name says it all) and I have seen his evolution as a producer first hand as we went to college together and the levels are just stupid high! Even now but more recently I have been working with other few producers such as Jammz which is an artist himself but a super producer in his own right and also MMO aka Toast (lol), you have to see it to believe it!

MMO – Toast

K – What do you enjoy the most, the process of creating in the studio or performing on stage?

Is this a trick question? So look, I see it like this: imagine you are a world renowned Michellin stars chef, of course you love to cook and prepare delicious beautiful tasty unforgettable meals, but I just feel like eating a delicious meal (in this case would be performing) is always better than preparing a delicious meal.

K – Which was your best performance and your best clash.

One of my best and most enjoyable performances was at Selfridges in West End Central London for the launch of a new line by fashion designer Michèle Lamy, it was a new experience to say the least. Big up my friend A.G. each and every time.

I did have a funny clash with Jammer on his birthday couple months ago! I’m not gonna say who won but I won haha! Big up Jammer!

K – Best experience you ever had in studio and with who.

To be honest anytime a banger is made in the studio is the best experience! With who? Ermmm.. everyone brings a different vybe to the studio, so I can’t just name one time or say one person. But big up everyone who has been in a studio session with me.

K – When can London expect your next release? Any mixtape on the way?

September I have an EP dropping! I don’t have an specific date for you today, but September (soon and my birthday month), keep your eyes peeled. I am very excited about this!

K – Tell us some of the topics you planning to highlight in your next projects.

Well, with everything going on in the world at the moment (you know, the pandemic) one thing I always do is keep my music current and with the times, so topics that are true to me and my current experiences such as: love, introspection, life goals and confidence.

K – From where does ARMZOUT start to create a new song?

Let me put it like this, I believe art is supposed to imitate life, not life imitating art, so my art comes from my life. Anything that inspires me no matter how big or small, stupid or smart, dull or colorful aids in the creation of a new song.

K – Favourite place to scape and get inspired.

Outside of myself.

Armzout at Ace Hotel London

K – Where do you see yourself in 10 years.

On top of the game and on top of my game. That’s it!
